Declaration of Academic Freedom
Declaration of Academic Freedom (scientific human rights) known also as the Academic Bill of Rights is authored by Dmitri Rabounski, Editor-in-Chief of Progress in Physics. The original text of the Declaration in English was published in the journal as his open letter to the scientific community (2006, no.1, 57-60). It was later translated into several other languages. Both the orginal text and the translations are accessed herefrom:

LaTeX Software
TeX, pronounced as "tech", is a professional typesetting system created in 1977 by Donald E. Knuth, a professor at Stanford University, and the author of famous The Art of Computer Programming. TeX provides a simple text-only code describing a typesetted document with a high quality output file in DVI (device independent) format, PostScript or PDF. In addition to PlainTeX, the initially TeX macro-language by Donald E. Knuth, other TeX modifications were created: LaTeX is the most popular extension of TeX by Leslie Lamport that became a standard for professional typesetting throughout the world, and AMS-TeX created by Michael D. Spivak at the American Mathematical Society for typesetting of highly complicate mathematical papers. The Lion that above, the TeX logo, was drawn by Duanne Bibby, a well-known commercial artist who illustrated Knuth's TeX Book and Lamport's LaTeX Book.
Any TeX distribution contains PlainTeX/LaTeX/AMS-TeX processors, a DVI-viewer, PostScript fonts, utilites, and a simplest TeX editor. A comfortable TeX editor containing pictogram menu should be downloaded and installed separately. Free TeX software can be downloaded from the direct links given below. Additional TeX software can be obtained from the TeX Users Group (TUG) or the Compressive Tex Archive Network (CTAN). The principal CTAN hosts are U.S. CTAN, Cambridge CTAN (U.K.), Dante CTAN (Germany), which contain links to other CTAN mirrors throughout the world. For an express download use the FTP link to Cambridge CTAN.
To type LaTeX we recommend to install the cross-platform software that is available for both Windows, Linux, and MacOS: Tex Live, a cross-platform complete TeX system, and also TeXMaker which is a cross-plaform TeX-editor with pictogram menu. One may also like TeXStudio, the cross-platform TeX editor which is an open source derivative of TeXMaker.
Windows users may also like MiKTeX as a TeX system and TeXnicCenter as a TeX editor. Linux/BSD/Solaris users may also choose Kile, the TeXMaker predecessor working under both KDE and Gnome. All these is a free software.
MacOS users can use MacTeX, which a complete all-in-one distribution of TeX, a TeX editor and utilites. MacTeX is a free software.
iPad/iPhone users can use TeXifier, an all-in-one TeX bundle working offline: all the TeX packages, the TeX editor and the TeX utilites are installed on your iPad or iPhone. TeXPad is a commercial software, $29.99. Alternatively, a variety of online TeX services is available. In this case only a TeX editor is istalled on your iPad/iPhone device, while your TeX files are sent to one of the online TeX-services to compile.
All the TeX books, which are accessed below on this website, are free for distribution according to the GNU General Public License and the copyright agreement under which the books are distributed by their authors and publishers. These free books and also other free literature on TeX/LaTeX can be found on CTAN, in the Info Folder.

TeX for the Impatient by Paul Abrams (English, 2003), written with contribution by Kathryn Hargreaves and Karl Berry. This is another book that gives a detailed introduction to LaTeX and the LaTeX typesetting in 391 pages.
Typing and Typesetting with LaTeX by Sergey Lvowski (Russian, 2003). This book, known as the "LaTeX bible", is maybe the best among this sort of literature. This book is recommended to both beginners and professionals (much attention is paid to changing the standard LaTeX styles, which was omitted in the other books). Yet, this book is accessed only in Russian (volunteers are welcome for translation, contact the author). Someone may also be interested in the 1st edition (1992) that describes work with LaTeX 2.09.
Computer Typesetting Using LaTeX by Evgeny Baldin (Russian, 2013) is another detailed description of LaTeX, which may also be interested and helpful for Russian readers.
LaTeX 2ε Manuals by Vladimir Syutkin (Russian, 2002) is a collection of very useful tutorials on various aspects of working with LaTeX 2ε.
The Comprehensive LaTeX Symbol List by Scott Pakin (English, 2008). This is an organized list of over 4900 symbols commonly available in LaTeX. A Short List of the Standard LaTeX Symbols and A Short List of the Symbols Available in TX Fonts were prepared by Emre Sermutlu (English, 2008).
